Leaning back into Cool

I have always been in awe of coolness.  Cool is about authenticity, attitude, aesthetic, behavior and style. Smooth, quiet, comfortable charisma, unapologetic humor and humble self confidence, laid back, sometimes sexy, easy going but fierce when it's called for.

Some examples of cool (in no particular order):

  • Black boots
  • Yoda
  • Batman
  • Julie Hewett Coco Noir lipstick
  • Old school R & B
  • Jazz
  • Mac and cheese from scratch
  • Meditation
  • Martinis
  • Sobriety
  • Snoopy
  • Salsa dancing
  • Sending flowers when it's NOT Valentine's Day or Mother's Day or your anniversary
  • A well worn leather motorcycle jacket
  • Dark chocolate
  • Patience
  • Purpose
  • Passion

(oops, almost fell off the woo-woo cliff there for a minute)

I'm thinking Richard Gere, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington; Tony Bennett, Sophia Loren and George Clooney,  I realize that all of these examples are 40 years old or more, but they embody a quality of cool that is mature, unselfconscious. Oh, and hot. Cool is definitely hot.

Cool is an internal state of being with yourself that is calm, grounded and secure. Sometimes when the world around you is being shaken at the roots, it can be immensely helpful to remember your inner cool. When the heat is on, lean back into cool.
