Sensory Memory

This morning I passed by a corner store on my morning walk, and the smell of "corner store coffee pot" wafted in the air.

It's amazing to me how certain scents evoke such powerful sensory memories. Lipton tea with milk and sugar immediately reminds me of my grandfather, who taught me to love afternoon tea. The smell of rose-scented moisturizer and I'm right back with my grandmother and her favorite lotion.

Some scents bring back unpleasant or painful memories, but for today, I'll stick with the happy ones.

Are there particular scents that bring back memories for you? Perhaps you're thinking of the smell of suntan oil, or fresh bagels from the deli, or summer tomatoes from the garden.
