Why I Love Ironing

Almost 20 years ago, Buddhist meditation teacher Jack Kornfield wrote a book called After the Ecstasy, the Laundry. There is something enlightening waiting for us in the everyday mundane moments. I’ve found this peacefulness in ironing.

I have always found ironing to be extremely relaxing. The meditative strokes of the iron smoothing out the fabric seems to smooth out any metaphorical wrinkles inside me. If I am angry or frustrated and I have any residual stress, I will go to the ironing board and redirect myself. I enjoy the simple ritual of opening the ironing board, turning on the iron, filling it with water, and carefully arranging the item on the ironing board.

When I saw this video of actor Michael B. Jordan, I felt like I could finally come out of hiding and share my love of ironing. After the ecstasy, the laundry.
