I felt grateful to have read this article yesterday about how so-called “non-believers” cope with grief–grateful for the reminder that every human being has their own evolving stew of thoughts, feelings and beliefs.
Articles like this remind me to center myself in humility and awe about the wealth of creative resources for managing the heartbreak of inexplicable loss. Some people might call on God or faith, while others have a less-traditional, prescriptive experience of so-called “spirituality.” Joanne Cacciatore’s research indicated that faith leaders fall abysmally short when it comes to comforting people who are grieving.
Thank you to every skeptic, non-believer, spiritual eclectic or seeker, and yes, even religious folks, who meet me in the tender truth of their experience.
