Hope in the Morning

IMG00088-20100108-1001 I treasure my morning time for walking and meditation.

This morning at the beach was cold, gray and overcast. And then for a quick moment, maybe a minute or two at most, a small smudge of a rainbow appeared in between the clouds.

I snapped a quick picture of it with my cell phone. It's a bit blurry but I think you can see the splash of color in the clouds.

And then, in an instant, the rainbow disappeared. I was delighted to have seen it, especially since there was a downpour of rain immediately afterward.

Catching a glimpse of today's rainbow reminded me of the magic that lives in between the gray clouds.

How do you start your day? What are mornings like for you? Are there things you do (or could do) to nourish and nurture yourself before you get started with the everyday tasks of life? What is the rainbow nestled in between the gray clouds of your life right now?

The other day I received an email from a friend who had written a morning meditation for caregivers. Although it has particular resonance for caregivers of all kinds (professionals, family members, friends), I think it is also a wonderful practice (to breathe into the words and meditate) for anyone:

 A Morning Meditation for Caregivers

Rabbi Menachem Creditor

Breathe.

Experience the love you help others feel.

Be right where you are.

Silence the other inner voices for a moment.

They can wait.

Breathe.
