I spend a lot of my time in conversation…talking, listening, talking some more. Over the past few years I have come to love the silence in between the words. Not the kind of awkward, punishing silence that creates tension, but spacious, patient, silence that invites the truth to come forward in its own time.
Silence is fertile ground for compassion to blossom.
“I was brought up all my life among the Sages, and I have found nothing as good for the body as silence…”
Simeon, son of Rabban Gamliel, in Pirke Avot 1:17
