Practice Napping

I have an elderly neighbor who refers to his afternoon nap as his “daily meditation.” Every afternoon he replenishes his mind, body and spirit, and this spirited octogenarian could be the poster child for meditation and personal Sabbath time.

“Human beings aren’t designed to expend energy continuously. Rather, we’re meant to pulse between spending and recovering energy.”

Sometimes I (half-jokingly, half seriously) muse about putting a comfy chaise lounge and soothing fountain in my waiting room, so my clients can take a much needed rest before and after our sessions. It’s a self-care strategy that so many people deny themselves, or feel overwhelming self-reproachment if they “indulge in napping.”

Put down the latte and pick up the pillow; it’s time for an energy boost.
